Ingredients

Instructions

  • Get cooking
Cook the frankfurters for 3-4 minutes, until slightly charred. Chef Bjoern uses a griddle, however they can also be fried or grilled. Whilst the frankfurters are cooking you can prepare the base for his classic hot dog recipe.
  • Messy Coleslaw
Coleslaw serves as the base for this recipe. Coleslaw is quick and easy to make. Simply mix together white cabbage, mayonnaise, grated carrots, a dash of mustard and salt and pepper to season. Add in some chives and spring onion to the coleslaw mix for some extra flavours. Once mixed add the coleslaw to the bottom of the classic hot dog roll. Don’t be shy with the amount – remember hot dogs are meant to be messy.
  • The more the merrier
Load up your roll. Add the cooked frankfurter on top of the coleslaw. Coat the frankfurter in sauces – hot dog sauce, ketchup & mustard. Then layer on some extra toppings. Start with the crispy fried onions and then add some jalapenos. To add some colour garnish with red amaranth and chive shoots. Add your potato dippers side and you are ready to serve.

Notes

And remember…

We love these topping combinations. However, you can add and subtract as you see fit. The main key to this classic hot dog recipe is to load the dog up. The dirtier the hot dog, the better!
